Exoplay has been awarded a Type 2 online gaming licence by the Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC).

This will allow the company to operate games of chance through its online platform, including live casino and RNG games.

The licence will last for seven years and cost €2m ($2.2m), making Exoplay the second casino-only operator in Greece.

According to the HGC, the Greek online casino market has grown 328% since 2019, potentially due to the relatively new casino landscape in the country.

All forms of electronic gambling were banned in Greece in 2002, and land-based slot machines were only legalised in 2011.

Online gambling licences were only introduced on 11 September 2020, when the HGC issued a public invitation for operators to apply for them for the first time.

Exoplay will be the 19th company to receive a HGC licence since the regulations went live.

Constantine Koumatos, Exoplay Managing Director, slot machine jackpot said: “We are absolutely excited to receive the green light to enter one of the most competitive, demanding and dynamic markets in Europe.

“Our vision is to offer a gaming proposition which will stand out and stand apart amongst other, characteristically identical, online casinos and we are very much looking forward to presenting ours to the Greek players and to the world.”

Exoplay, a subsidiary of Astarti, is expected to launch in Q2 2024 with a currently undisclosed brand.

The HGC has certainly had a busy season before Christmas, as it also awarded a licence to Stakelogic Live for the company's live casino suite.
